For Your Future

Proverbs 10:22 - The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.

What's in your future?

Most Americans share the dream of a carefree fun-filled retirement. They dream of travel and leisure, doing whatever they want, whenever they want to do it.  How about you? Do you picture yourself on a beach, a golf course, a side walk café in Paris?  What ever your dream is, what are you doing to prepare for retirement?

From our recent history, it is obvious that the days of an employer-sponsored retirement are all but gone. Who would have imagined that many of the largest companies in the U.S. would end up bankrupt and default on the pensions that so many people had worked their entire lives to earn? But what about those folks that succeeded in building a respectable nest egg over their lives only to loose 30 to 60% of it because of “market conditions”?

A recent poll by the Employee Benefit Research Institute reported that only 13% of Americans said that they were very confident that they would have enough money for retirement. It seems like the only people who are very confident about their retirements are the executives from banks, Wall Street and the Insurance companies.

“It’s not what you make, it’s what you keep!”

Most people don’t realize that they will earn a fortune in their lifetime. We wind up with possibly
millions of dollars passing through our checking accounts, with the key words being “passing
through”.  The problem is that most Americans fail to plan for their retirement. Human nature is a fickle thing; we all know from early adulthood that we need to save for retirement, but being human we somehow manage to convince ourselves that there will be plenty of time to start saving later. Then when later gets here, we all say the same thing, “I wish I had started saving sooner”.
